It’s another exciting week at PALM, and we have several important reminders, upcoming events, and ways for our families to stay connected. Please take a few minutes to review this week’s happenings so you don’t miss anything!
Important Dates & Reminders
🇺🇸 Labor Day – Monday, September 7
PALM will be closed on Monday, September 7, in observance of Labor Day. We hope everyone enjoys the long weekend and some well-deserved time with family!
📸 Picture Day – Thursday, September 10
Picture Day is coming up on Thursday! Please mark your calendars. Additional information about picture packages and ordering will be shared soon.
🌮 Nachos – Wednesday, September 9
Students can look forward to nachos being available on Wednesday!
🐔 Bojangles – Thursday, September 10
Bojangles is back! Students will have the opportunity to enjoy Bojangles on Thursday.
💰 Registration Fees Due
A friendly reminder to all PALM families that registration fees are due. Payments may be made by cash, check, or credit card. Please take care of any outstanding registration fees as soon as possible. Thank you for helping us keep everything up to date!
⏰ Attendance & Tardies
We are seeing an increase in tardies, and we need everyone’s help getting this under control.
The tardy bell rings at 8:15 AM. Please make sure your student arrives at school with enough time to get settled and be in class before the bell rings.
Starting the day on time helps students have a successful and productive school day. Thank you for partnering with us to make punctuality a priority!
💻 Virtual Friday Reminder
Don’t forget about Virtual Fridays! Students are expected to log in each Friday and complete their assigned work. Please encourage your student to stay on top of assignments and make Virtual Friday a regular part of their weekly routine.

Want to become more involved in the PALM community? Our Board Call for Candidates is open through Tuesday, September 8 at noon. We encourage interested members of our PALM family to consider this opportunity to get involved and help support our school community!

What an amazing first week back! It has been great to see our students and staff back on campus, and we are so excited about the energy we have already felt this school year. We can’t wait to continue building on this great start and make it an amazing year for our PALM family!

2026 Board of Directors Election Process & Timeline.
Palmetto Academy of Learning Motorsports (PALM) has partnered with the Public Charter School Alliance of South Carolina (PCSASC) to administer this year's Board of Directors election, helping ensure a fair, secure, and confidential election process.
This election is conducted in accordance with the South Carolina Charter Schools Act (S.C. Code of Laws Title 59, Chapter 40), as amended by Act 123 of 2026 (S.454, the Charter School Accountability Act), the school's Charter, and its Bylaws.
The governing board consists of seven (7) members. Five (5) of these seats are elected and two (2) are appointed. Three (3) elected and one (1) appointed seats are up this cycle. These seats carry a two-year term.

Call for Board Candidates will be distributed to the public by the school. Each prospective board member must complete an online filing form in its entirety.

E-ballot links are emailed to each eligible voter. Voting opens at 7:00 AM and closes at 4:00 PM. Each ballot has a unique PIN.

No later than this date, results are certified and announced publicly.

Candidates Sworn In — Election Complete
Newly elected board members are formally sworn in at the regularly scheduled board meeting.
Meeting and Training Requirements:
Meeting Requirements: Board Members are required to attend all board meetings.
Mandated board orientation: Per Act 123 (S.C. Code §59-40-155), within one year of taking office each new board member must complete an orientation program covering board duties, policy development, personnel, instructional programs, school finance, school law, state ethics laws, the Freedom of Information Act, and community relations. This orientation must be provided at no charge by the South Carolina Department of Education or an entity approved by the Department.
Annual training (new): After their first year in office, board members must also attend annual training provided by the school's authorizer covering laws, regulations, and fiduciary responsibilities unique to charter schools.
Background checks: All board members are subject to a SLED criminal background and a DSS Child Abuse and Neglect Registry check.
Conflicts of interest & multiple board service (new): Board members are subject to the conflict-of-interest restrictions in S.C. Code §59-40-75, including limits on financial ties to management organizations or vendors, and — effective after December 31, 2026 — a prohibition on simultaneously serving on more than one charter school or charter school authorizer governing board.
Calling All Senior Parents!
Last year, our senior parents organized a special Last First Day of School event to celebrate their students as they began their final year. Parents came to see their seniors off to school and set up a breakfast table for the students.

Dear Parents/Guardians,
Please remind your student to complete all assigned virtual work for each class. Students who do not complete their virtual assignments will be counted absent and will be required to make up the missed instructional time during the summer. Failure to complete the required work and make up the time could also result in failing the course.
The easiest way to avoid these consequences is for students to complete their assignments on time. I appreciate your support in helping your student stay on track and finish the school year successfully.
